Rare and magical instruments, Turkish Cymbals each have unique voices that will continue to sing for as long as you own them. Quite naturally, they unite the ancient past of Istanbul with the future of music all around the world. And they are made to enchant the ears, unlike the mass-produced trinkets that our competition dares to call cymbals.

SOLO Eyewear is a line of handcrafted sunglasses made with recycled bamboo. Each pair purchased funds eye care for people in need. The concept for SOLO Eyewear was developed in a classroom at San Diego State University. Jenny was enrolled in the MBA Program. While completing an International Entrepreneurship course, she was given the option to read Paul Polak’s Out of Poverty. While reading the book, she discovered there was a great need for eye care around the world and decided to research the issue further. Jenny, who has poor vision, encountered two startling statistics: approximately 1 billion people do not have access to eye care and nearly 80% of the world’s blindness is preventable (World Health Organization). These statistics were a call to action… the idea for SOLO Eyewear was born. Since launching in 2011, SOLO has restored vision for 9,094+ people in need across 19 countries and it’s only the beginning. With the support of a stellar team, Jenny and Dana are leading the vision restoring efforts at SOLO. Their goal for 2013 is to restore vision for 12,000 people in need by funding prescription eyeglasses and cataract surgeries.
Bands In Our Family
The Mowgli’s are a Southern Californian band with a Southern Californian soul. The eight-piece started in a garage in the San Fernando Valley where many of them grew up. They’re bound together by an intricate social web that dates back to childhood and their harmonies carry a message of universal love and togetherness. Brother and sisterhood. It’s all about unity, having a good time, and the idea that humanity can achieve a higher level consciousness.
Los Angeles based rock group The Janks make it their mission to produce music in the same way they live their lives, with both sincerity and irreverence, strength and vulnerability, with control and chaos. Their sound is deeply rooted in the brotherly two-part harmony tradition of the Kinks and the Everly Brothers while invoking the musical stylings reminiscent of bands like the Raconteurs and Jeff Buckley. The way KROQ describes it; “Imagine Jack White had a baby with Jimmy Page. And that baby had a brother. And those brothers were adopted and raised by a commune of KROQ Local’s Only favorites like Father John Misty and Family of the Year. That’s a smattering of the sensibilities and stylings you get in The Janks.”
Self-described as “blues indie rock folk dance soul,” TERRAPLANE SUN blends all of that and more into a rootsy rock cocktail that defies any specific era. While their music occasionally evokes stylings of THE BLACK KEYS or PHOENIX, they’re not married to any trend or scene. It’s what happens when four-fifths of your lineup is born and bred in SoCal, pulling together just the right recipe of shared and disparate influences. Frontman Rothbard explains, “I wanted to make this a very classic, somewhat vintage-based band, where all the tones were kind of timeless, and let the songs do their thing.”
